BrilliantThe name of a particular diamond cut. Apart from its weight, the value of a brilliant-cut diamond depends on its color, purity, cut quality, but especially, its proportions. The brilliance of a diamond depends largely on the proportions of its cut.
Carat SizeThe weight of a diamond is measured in carats. Where possible, we engrave carat weights into our rings with the following abbreviations:
- CD Coffee Diamond
- D Diamond
- SA Sapphire
Coffee DiamondNaturally brown pigmented diamond, see diamond.
DiamondThe hardest substance on Earth. Diamonds are not only white/transparent but also yellow, pink and pale blue shades. We use coffee diamonds in many of our products. Our white diamonds are graded Wesselton VVS, a very high quality. The designation of our white diamonds is W for Wesselton and VVS for very, very small inclusions, indicating purity.
We can also supply the higher Top Wesselton VVS or River grades, please inquire about prices.
MoonstoneA type of feldspar and the birthstone for June. Not particularly hard, so its surface fades somewhat with time. Moonstone is holy in India, where it is believed to bring the wearer good fortune.
OnyxCompletely black agate is often called onyx.
PlatinumPlatinum is the finest of all precious metals and the most durable. Platinum is extremely rare and renowned as an exacting material that few goldsmiths master. Platinum has very high density (high weight) and an extremely high melting point (1,772°C). These characteristics make platinum unrivalled as a precious metal. Rings last a lifetime, almost without signs of wear or loss of luster. Stones set in platinum remain very secure, and their blue-white luster is particularly suited to diamonds.
PearlsWe use akoya pearls, cultivated in akoya mussels on the south coast of Japan, and outside Chinese territory. Cultivating pearls in salt water is far harder than in fresh water, but their quality and luster is regarded as superior.
Ring SizesWhen you wear more than one ring on the same finger, you need a larger size, and if you’re buying a ring from our Belle range with seven diamonds, you’ll need about a quarter size larger than usual.
Rose QuartzA very hard stone from the quartz family.
RubyRubies are actually a type of sapphire, but get their name from their deep and intense pigment. Rubies have been coveted through the ages. Their value depends mainly on their color and they can be more valuable than diamonds. The world’s finest rubies come from Burma, where we source ours.
Smoky QuartzA gem of medium hardness from the quartz family.
Red GoldWe always use 18 carat gold, corresponding to the international 750 grade, denoting a 75% pure gold content.
SapphireHard precious stone in a range of colors. We source violet stones from Madagascar, and pink and blue ones from Ceylon. All are brilliant cut for the greatest luster and intensity.
SilverThe 925 designation indicates a 92.5% pure silver content. The surfaces of our jewelry are coated with pure silver to achieve a truly bright surface.
TsavoriteIn 1968, a new type of precious stone was discovered in Tsavo National Park on the border between Kenya and Tanzania. This stone has a highly intense clear, green pigment, and was called tsavorite. It is a type of garnet and extremely rare.
White GoldWe always use 18 carat gold, corresponding to the international 750 grade, denoting a 75% pure gold content. Because we do all our own alloying work, we are able to control color and quality. The precious metal palladium gives our gold its subtle grey tone, weight and price difference with red gold. A lot of white gold jewelry, particularly imported products, use nickel instead of palladium, making them cheaper. A thin layer of rhodium is added to produce added whiteness, which wears off with time. We do not use this process, nor do we use nickel in our products.
WVVSWe use diamonds graded Wesselton VVS. Wesselton indicates the color, almost pure but with a very faint off-white tone. VVS indicates purity, very very small inclusions. This means any inclusions are invisible to the naked eye. We consider this grade to offer the best value for money. When buying stones, we put the greatest emphasis on their cut, which must be perfect, otherwise they lose their luster.
SurfaceRemember that over time, matt surfaces become shiny and shiny services become more matt. We are happy to polish and clean rings.
